Record Number Of Americans Spent More Than Half Their Income On Housing In 2010 | According to a new paper by the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University, a record 20.2 million Americans spent more than half their income on housing in 2010, the latest year for which data is available. The number rose by 2.3 million between 2007 and 2010. Experts typically classify a household as financially burdened if more than 30 percent of income goes toward housing costs.
