U.S. Automakers Post Best August Sales Since Recession | U.S. automakers posted their best August sales this year since 2007, before the Great Recession, selling more than 1.2 million vehicles. General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford “all saw double-digit increases from August 2011 sales.” Chrysler, which was rescued by the federal government (in a move opposed by Republicans) has experienced 29 months of year-over-year sales gains.
