According to the College Board, the average cost of private and public college tuition and fees increased by more than 4 percent this year, while financial aid stagnated. Overall, “the net price (the cost after scholarships, grants and federal tax benefits) that in-state students at public colleges will pay this year rose 4.6% to an average of $16,510.” While college costs have sextupled in the last three decades, financial aid hasn’t kept up.
