Google is one of the worst abusers of tax havens, using complicated strategies to run its tax rate down into the single digits, even as it makes billions of dollars in profits. As Bloomberg News reported, Google’s profits “wind up in island havens that levy no corporate income taxes at all.” In France, at least, lawmakers have had enough, reportedly slapping the company with a $1 billion bill for past tax avoidance. France has been trying to pressure Google to pay more taxes on revenue made in the country. Google has denied receiving the large tax bill.
