Economy Created 155,000 Jobs In December, Unemployment To 7.8 Percent | According to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 155,000 jobs were created last month, with the unemployment rate ticking up slightly to 7.8 percent. Analysts had expected 160,000 jobs. Revisions to October and November added 14,000 jobs. The private sector created 168,00 jobs, while the public sector lost 13,000. The wider U-6 measure of underemployment was unchanged at 14.4 percent.
