“Our pasture conditions are terrible,” George Enloe, a partner at Amarillo Brokerage Co., a risk-management firm in Amarillo, Texas, tells Bloomberg. “It looks like the moon. It looks like it’s the middle of the winter in a real bad year, except it’s 100 degrees outside.” As hay prices skyrocket, the USDA yesterday forecast retail meat prices may increase this year as much as 7 percent and dairy products may jump 6 percent. Temperatures in Dallas will top 100°F for a 25th consecutive day.
