"Religious Leaders Support Offshore Wind Power In Maryland"

A group of 30 religious leaders from Prince George’s County, Maryland are asking state lawmakers to support offshore wind energy development. They urged the county’s representatives to support offshore wind because of the harm coal pollution has on the community’s health. “Because our communities have borne more than our share of the costs of dirty power, we ask you to lead the way in advancing clean alternatives,” the group wrote. Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) has made offshore wind a key part of his legislative agenda this session. Last year, a bill requiring utilities to enter into long-term wind power contracts failed in the state legislature. The governor is proposing legislation that sets the requirement without requiring a long-term contract.
