Merrill Goozner has a fascinating look at how the medical devise industry has “launched an aggressive campaign to avoid tighter Food and Drug Administration rules that would help generate the information needed to show whether newer devices are actually superior to the ones they replace.” The regulations “would prevent billions of dollars from being spent on technologies that are not helpful for patients and are even harmful,” but many Republicans in the House and four Democrats are already lining up against them.
