HHS: States May Not Be Ready To Establish Exchanges By 2014

“The Obama administration official overseeing the establishment of state health insurance exchanges left open the possibility Thursday that no states will establish such marketplaces by the 2014 statutory deadline,” Modern Healthcare’s Rich Daly reports. The exchange regulations released last week would allow states to establish an exchange after 2014. The official, Steve Larsen, also suggested that more than “one-third of the nearly $4 billion in loans the federal government plans to issue for the development of non-profit health insurance co-ops could end in default.”
