Fewer Workers Receiving Insurance Through Their Employer

A new report from the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) shows that a brief increase in the number of workers receiving health coverage through their employer “has not endured.” After rising between 2007 and 2009, the percent of employees with employer-based coverage fell from more than 60 percent in June 2009 to almost 56 percent by April 2011. An earlier report showed that 75 percent of lower-wage workers lack employer-based health insurance. One of the key purposes of Obamacare is to expand health coverage for Americans who don’t have access to needed care, like workers without employer-based coverage.
