Sens. Bob Casey (D-PA) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) introduced the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act to the Senate today. The bill would offer workplace protections for pregnant women, requiring employers to provide reasonable accommodations to pregnant employees. Such accommodations include providing a stool or water bottle to a pregnant worker, or allowing her not to carry heavy boxes — measures that ensure pregnant workers don’t have to put their health at risk, or leave their jobs before they need to. The legislation was introduced in the House in May, but has since made no advancements.
