Dozens of women will share their personal stories about abortion during a live speakout streaming between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. EST on Tuesday.
Hosted by the 1 in 3 Campaign — an advocacy group that gets its name from the statistic that one in three U.S. women will have an abortion in her lifetime — the event hopes to recenter the national conversation about reproductive rights. Rather than discussing abortion in purely political terms, the online speakout will focus on how abortion access affects real people’s lives.

The speakout comes as a looming Supreme Court case threatens to undermine access to abortion services across the United States. Spokespeople for the 1 in 3 Campaign say that Tuesday’s event represents “a people’s brief” to the country about the issue.
“We want to provide context to lawmakers and to the general public,” Julia Reticker-Flynn, the director of the 1 in 3 Campaign, told ThinkProgress last week. “It’s important when discussing abortion to focus on the actual people, not the policy. See the real-life implications of these current or potential laws.”
