Across the country on Thursday, thousands of immigrants celebrated Independence Day by becoming American citizens.

In what’s become a patriotic tradition, mass naturalization ceremonies took place in different cities to celebrate the Fourth of July, with 7,800 people becoming citizens.

But unlike in the past, this year, social media shaped the day; the New York Daily News reports that federal officials were encouraging new citizens to use the hash tag #july4natz to share their naturalization experiences online. And they did:
