- After President George W. Bush remade the federal bench in corporate America’s image, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) wants to do the same to his state’s judiciary.
- The Justice Department has resumed investigating urban police departments for “systematic civil rights abuses such as harassment of racial minorities, false arrests, and excessive use of force,” a role DOJ largely abandoned under President Bush.
- Justice Stephen Breyer sold as much as $50,000 in Wal-Mart stock in order to participate in a class action suit involving the giant retailer.
- The Canadian Supreme Court held that a person cannot consent in advance to sex while they are unconscious. The decision was 6-3.
- Justice Sonia Sotomayor earned a nearly $1.2 million advance for her memoir.
- Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT) is pushing a privacy bill to keep the government from reading your email.
- And, finally, the Eighth Circuit will hear oral arguments this week in the NFL owners’ appeal of a decision halting the NFL lockout.
