- The board overseeing Virginia’s juvenile justice facilities voted unanimously to ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation it those facilities, despite attempts by Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli (R) to press them to keep their previous anti-gay policy.
- Racial and gender diversity is up among the legal profession’s most elite club, Supreme Court practitioners.
- Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), who previously promised to ramp up partisan assaults on Obama’s judicial nominees, made good on that promise yesterday by attacking several nominees qualifications because they have not had every possible professional experience a lawyer can have before being nominated to the bench.
- The Senate appears poised to pass a bill that will reduce the number of presidential nominees requiring Senate confirmation.
- The Supreme Court is being asked to consider whether foreign corporations can be used in U.S. courts for war crimes or human rights abuses.
- And, finally, right-wing media mogul Conrad Black went to jail — and promptly decided the other inmates were his personal servants.
