On June 21, the Senate confirmed Judge Michael Simon to a federal judgeship in Oregon. Simon is now the only judge to be confirmed in the last month. Only two additional judges — Judges Claire Cecchi and Esther Salas — were confirmed during the entire month of June. No judge has been confirmed during the month of July. This means that new federal judges are now being confirmed far more slowly than existing judges are retiring — a rate that will eventually drain the entire bench dry.
