- Judge Malcolm Muir died at the age of 96 yesterday while at his desk working on a case. Despite his advanced age, Muir continued to do his part to reduce the backlog of cases caused by a shortage of judges literally until he took his last breath.
- Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) had to postpone two judicial confirmation votes yesterday because a storm kept senators from arriving at the Capitol.
- Although many of President Obama’s nominee remain caught behind a wall of right-wing obstructionism, he has managed to nominate the most diverse group of judges in American history.
- A federal appeals court held that police can take a sample of your DNA without a warrant after they arrest you.
- Finally, congratulations to David Boies and Ted Olson, the attorneys fighting anti-gay Prop 8, who will receive the American Bar Association’s highest honor for service to the law.
