Goodwin Liu To Receive Confirmation Vote on Aug. 31

Professor Goodwin Liu, who California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) nominated to the state supreme court after Republicans filibustered Liu’s nomination to the federal bench, will receive his confirmation vote on August 31st. Unlike the federal system, which effectively required Liu’s nomination to be confirmed by a supermajority of the U.S. Senate, California’s system only requires Liu to be approved by a three person panel consisting of the chief justice, the attorney general and the senior-most court of appeals judge. Liu is widely expected to be confirmed.
