- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who has done more to make American ungovernable than any modern lawmaker, audaciously blames President Obama for “picking a fight” with Congress over recess appointments.
- The California Supreme Court unanimously upheld legislative maps drawn by the state’s independent redistricting commission, despite complaints by a Republican group that the maps would lead to Republicans losing seats. Six of the court’s seven members are themselves Republicans.
- Meanwhile, Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin (R) is pushing a constitutional amendment to weaken that state’s independent commission after Gov. Jan Brewer’s (R) attempt to illegally remove the commission’s chair was struck down by the courts.
- The Tenth Circuit upheld the Stolen Valor Act, which forbids falsely claiming that one received a military medal against a First Amendment challenge. A similar case is currently before the Supreme Court.
- Kansas lawmakers want to allow concealed firearms on college campuses.
- Meanwhile, Oklahoma lawmakers want to expand the state’s “make my day” law, which permits people to shoot many intruders into their home or business.
