Iowa state Rep. Brian Quirk (D) ended his membership in the American Legislative Exchange Council today, referring to the group that brings corporations and lawmakers together to write laws as both partisan and extreme. “As a member I saw firsthand the sort of legislation they push on state legislators around the country,” Quirk said. “I disagree with ALEC’s extreme agenda and the partisan way in which they operate.” 16 organizations have already cut their ties to the conservative group behind many “Stand Your Ground” and anti-environment policies.
