- Sen. Rand Paul wrapped up his talking filibuster around 1 a.m. after almost 13 hours of perpetual floor time by Rand and his colleagues, intended to hold up the nomination of John Brennan to the CIA. Paul wasn’t satisfied with Attorney General Eric Holder’s answer on drone strikes against American citizens at an oversight hearing earlier that day. During that hearing, Holder fielded questions on drones, the sequester and Aaron Swartz, while Republican senators were executing another, more under-the-radar filibuster that has prompted renewed calls for reform.
- A Texas Supreme Court justice is calling on state legislators to form a commission to investigate wrongful convictions in the state, noting that Texas leads the nation in prisoners set free by DNA exonerations.
- A federal appeals court judge ruled that a drug company executive convicted of fraud for overstating the results of a clinical drug trial could not use the First Amendment as a defense.
- The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the stay of an Arizona execution scheduled for Wednesday morning, holding that his lawyer’s failure to raise his mental illness at trial may have been significant.
