Via Feminist Law Professors: New York Tax Law requires that married couples who file separate federal income tax returns also have to file separately for New York state income taxes. Although the Marriage Equality Act passed last week calls for married same-sex couples to be “treated equally in all respects under the law,” the federal Defense of Marriage Act may create complications under the current tax code.
