Illinois Abandons Contract With Catholic Charities’ Adoption Services | The state of Illinois will abandon future contracts with Catholic Charities’ adoption and foster care services because of their unwillingness to comply with the state’s new civil unions law. After it took effect last month, several dioceses ended their services rather than place children with same-sex couples, and some have filed suit for an injunction to discriminate against same-sex couples. Any of the agencies who do continue providing adoption services will do so without state funding starting in 2012.
