Illinois Catholic Charities Seek Injunction For Dropped Contracts | Catholic Charities of Illinois is seeking an injunction against state officials’ decision to abandon contracts supporting the agencies’ adoption and foster care services. Gov. Pat Quinn (D) announced yesterday the contracts would not be renewed in 2012 because Catholic Charities refused to offer their services to same-sex couples with civil unions. Court proceedings begin today for three dioceses that are suing for exemption from recognizing civil unions, which became legal there last month. (HT: The Advocate.)
