Illinois Lawmaker Marries Same-Sex Partner In Iowa | Though Illinois now offers civil unions for same-sex couples, state Rep. Deborah Mell (D) would settle for nothing less than marriage for her and her now-wife, Christin Baker. The two have been together seven years and last weekend, they traveled to neighboring Iowa to wed. Mell explained, “It just wasn’t right to call Christin my ‘partner’ or my ‘friend’ . . . or even my ‘civil-unionized partner.’ You know she’s my wife. . . .
