Domestic Partnerships Benefits Bill Introduced In Florida Legislature | A bill to provide “domestic partnership protections to committed couples throughout Florida has been filed in both chambers of the legislature,” Equality Florida has announced. The measure would “grant individuals in a domestic partnership the same benefits and responsibilities currently available through marriage.” Florida ranks seventh in the nation, with 6.7 million people already “living in communities that recognize domestic partnerships.” Sixty percent of Fortune 500 companies “and a majority of Florida’s universities offer domestic partner benefits.” In 2008, the voters approved a constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union only between one man and one woman and banning civil unions or same-sex marriage.
