University Of Michigan Faculty Threaten Exodus If Domestic Partner Benefits Lost

The Michigan House of Representatives has already approved a bill that would eliminate domestic partner benefits for all state employees, including staff and faculty at the state’s 15 public universities. Faculty at the University of Michigan are suggesting there will be a mass exodus if the bill passes and that the change will severely hurt recruitment efforts for talented staff. The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Dave Agema (R), thinks the 618 individuals receiving the benefits are a burden on the state’s economy.
