Proponents Of Minnesota’s Anti-Gay Amendment Offer Supporters Gift Cards Through Pro-Gay Company | Minnesota for Marriage, the coalition supporting the state’s proposed marriage inequality amendment, is now incentivizing supporters to get out the vote by offering drawings for $100 Visa gift cards. Any supporter who convinces five people to pledge they will vote to ban same-sex marriage can enter the daily drawings. Incidentally, Visa is a company that has strongly supported its LGBT employees — including offering same-sex partner benefits — earning itself the top score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. Visa also offers an HRC card, donating a percentage from each purchase directly to the LGBT rights organization. The Minnesota Independent points out that buying votes is illegal, but it’s not clear this incentive program violates the law.
