Poll: 86 Percent Of Gay Mormons Find Ex-Gay Therapy Harmful Or Unhelpful | Hundreds of gay Mormons, their friends, and their family will meet in Salt Lake City this weekend for a conference on gay issues called “Circling the Wagons.” Utah State University conducted polling on the experience of gay and lesbian Mormons and found some interesting results. Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of the 1,600 responded had tried to change their orientation and 86 percent said that church counseling that sought to end their same-sex attraction was not helpful, somewhat harmful, or severely harmful. The Mormon Church started to offer some acceptance of LGBT people last year, but still provides ex-gay therapy through church counseling.
