"Evangelical Christian Voters Backing Gingrich, Despite His Personal History"

Evangelical Christian voters in Iowa are giving Newt Gingrich a pass on his marital history, a new CBS News Poll finds. Gingrich “wins the support of 34 percent of white evangelicals expected to attend the Republican caucuses on January 3″ far outpacing Romney, who is attracting just “10 percent of white evangelical caucus-goers.” Iowa Republicans are also less concerned about social issues, with just 14 percent saying that they will look at abortion or marriage to judge the candidates. Seventy-one percent say economic issues are paramount.

A New York Times poll also finds that 58 percent of Iowa’s “likely GOP caucus goers” support either full marriage equality or civil unions.
