White House Asked If Obama Will Endorse Marriage Equality In State Of The Union | White House Press Secretary Jay Carney swatted away questions about President Obama’s “evolution” from supporting civil unions to embracing marriage equality, during this afternoon’s briefing. Asked if Obama has been reading books to inform his position, Carney said, “I don’t have an update for you on that” and reiterated the president’s record on LGBT issues. Carney also told the Washington Blade’s Chris Johnson that he wouldn’t rule “in or out” the possibility that Obama would endorse same-sex marriage during Tuesday’s State of the Union address. Watch it:

Obama first told blogger Joe Sudbay that he was evolving in his support for marriage on October 27, 2010 and has been asked about the progress of that evolution ever since.
