NYT: GOP’s Push To Repeal Marriage Equality In New Hampshire Is Unconstitutional | A New York Times editorial is taking New Hampshire Republicans to task for trying to repeal the state’s marriage equality law and arguing that the action may be unconstitutional. Citing a recent federal appeals court decision, which found that California’s Proposition 8 was undermined the Constitution’s equal protection clause because it “singled out a minority group and took away a right — the right to marry — that had been granted to them by the State Legislature,” the paper writes, “This is just what the New Hampshire Legislature seems poised to do. The state extended the right to marry to all its citizens in 2009, but right-wingers vowed to overturn the law and now stand a good chance of doing so.” Indeed, since marriage equality went into effect, the state reports that 1,887 same-sex couples have married.
