California Therapists Come Out Against Ex-Therapy | The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) has approved a new statement on efforts to change sexual orientation, condemning ex-gay therapy as the product of “current cultural prejudice about same-sex sexual orientation” and a threat to children who are “especially vulnerable to harm” from the coercive treatments. Instead, CAMFT encourages therapists to use “affirmative multiculturally competent and client-centered approaches” that resist social stigma and help individuals develop a healthy understanding of their identities.
