"Judge Sentences Webcam Bully To 30-Day Jail Term, Spares Deportation"

A New Jersey judge has sentenced Dharun Ravi to 30 days in jail plus probation for the convicted hate crime of spying on his college roommate, Tyler Clementi, who shortly thereafter committed suicide. There was speculation that Ravi could also be deported, but this does not seem to be the case. Nevertheless, the judge called Ravi’s cover-up cold and calculated and noted his reluctance to apologize for his deeds. Activists have suggested that the sentence should reflect the crime, and Ravi was not convicted for directly causing Clementi’s suicide.
