The Montana Republican Party has long advocated for keeping homosexual acts illegal, despite decisions by the Montana Supreme Court (1997′s Gryczan v. State) and the U.S. Supreme Court (2003′s Lawrence v. Texas) ruling the state’s anti-sodomy law is unconstitutional. At this weekend’s convention, the party dropped its long-held support for sodomy laws from its platform, though it maintained its opposition to marriage equality. An attempt to repeal Montana’s unconstitutional law failed last year. A December poll found that 62 percent of Montana voters support LGBT equality.
