POLL: Majority Supports Marriage Equality Nationwide

For the past two years, polls have fairly consistently shown that a majority of Americans support marriage equality for same-sex couples, but not every specific poll had quite as strong a result. One prominent survey, conducted regularly by the New York Times and CBS, had shown a plurality of support (46-44) as of July, but this month, it too now shows a majority of support for the first time. When asked if it should be legal for same-sex couples to marry, 51 percent said it should be legal, and only 41 percent said it should be illegal. The tide continues to change as four states prepare to vote on that very question.
