Charlotte Sees Sharp Increase In LGBT Homeless Youth

Time Out Youth, an LGBT support group in Charlotte, North Carolina has seen a dramatic increase — 419 percent — in the amount of emergency housing it has provided to LGBT youth over the past year. The group does not even have its own standalone shelter, but works to help finds places where the young people will be safe. As other studies have found, the leading reason for the troubling phenomenon is family rejection; when these youth come out to their families, they then get kicked out of their house.
