POLL: Marriage Equality Support Surging In Illinois

A new poll from the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University suggests that support for marriage equality in Illinois is growing quickly, with 44 percent now in favor, up 10 percent from just two years ago. An additional 32 percent support same-sex civil unions, which are already legal in the state. In many ways, the poll may not offer a complete picture of marriage equality support, because if not provided with the choice of civil unions, more respondents may prefer the freedom to marry over no rights for same-sex couples. Only 20 percent said there should be no legal recognition for gay and lesbian families.
