New Jersey teacher Viki Knox made national headlines last year for writing that homosexuality is a “perverted sin” that “breeds like cancer” on her Facebook wall. She was suspended without pay on charges of “conduct unbecoming a teacher” and has been in tenure proceedings ever since. In May, she delayed those proceedings by filing for a disability pension due to a back injury and on “psychological grounds,” hoping to retire to avoid the tenure trial and possible penalties. It seems that she did, in fact, resign over the summer and settlement talks are underway about her disability claim. If granted, she would continue to receive 43.6 percent of her final average salary, which was about $72,000.
