Equality Opponents Tout Endorsement Of Fringe Ex-Gay-Promoting Doctors’ Group

The National Organization for Marriage is boasting that the American College of Pediatricians (ACP) has endorsed Minnesota’s marriage inequality amendment, counting on most to assume that it is the nation’s largest preeminent professional organization of doctors for children. Despite their similar-sounding names, this fringe social conservative group is a far cry from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the 60,000-member organization that supports marriage equality. The ACP, in stark contrast, supports harmful ex-gay therapy and rejects decades of social science affirming homosexuality. The American Medical Association and other professional medical groups disavowed the ACP in an amicus brief opposing the Defense of Marriage Act, calling out the fringe anti-gay group for its misleading anti-gay conclusions based on faulty data. NOM prefers lies that support their argument over truths that support same-sex families and their children.
