Maine Equality Opponents May Attempt Ballot Repeal Effort

The Christian Civic League of Maine, primary opponents of the marriage equality initiative that passed this week, has already suggested they may try to repeal the law in a future election. In its wound-licking “Where do we go from here?” post, the group explains that “We are exploring the possibility of returning to the ballot again to overturn this egregious new definition of marriage. That may mean another campaign, including a signature drive to get it back on another ballot.” That could mean millions of dollars spent fighting over civil rights in an attempt to take a right away as was done in California with Proposition 8.
