Oregon Democrats Nominate Country’s First Lesbian House Speaker | Democrats in the Oregon House of Representatives have chosen Rep. Tina Kotek to be their next Speaker, which will make her the first lesbian woman to ever lead a state legislative chamber in the U.S. She will also be Oregon’s first LGBT speaker, joining Washington, California, Colorado, and Rhode Island, who also have or are nominating out leaders.
