The City Commission of Helena, Montana has unanimously approved an ordinance that protects LGBT people from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. Many community members expressed concern about the “bathroom” meme, that somehow children would be at risk if trans people could use the bathrooms with which they identify. The law’s passage represents a big victory for LGBT Montanans, but reflects a long persistent process of advocacy.
