- Democratic lawmakers in Michigan have proposed legislation to begin the process of overturning the state’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.

- National Organization for Marriage Chairman John Eastman believes schools are teaching “untoward conduct” simply by acknowledging the existence of gay people.

- California’s Santa Ysabel Tribe has announced its support for marriage equality.

- The European Union’s foreign affairs ministers have adopted a ground-breaking global policy to promote human rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) persons.

- Ireland will hold a referendum on same-sex marriage in 2014.

- This week marks the 40th anniversary of the largest mass murder of LGBT people, the arson-set fire at the Upstairs Lounge in New Orleans’s French Quarter, which claimed 32 lives.

- The Gay & Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame has announced its first class, though Robbie Rogers is notably missing.

- The Directors Guild of America has elected Paris Barclay as its new president, and is both the first African American and first openly gay man to serve in the role.
