Today is Women’s Equality Day, which marks the anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. It’s now been 93 years and while much progress has been made, everyone’s right to vote is under attack and women are still far from equal.
The president has been on a two-day bus tour focusing on his new plan to make college more affordable in order to help grow the economy from the middle class out. In less than 6 weeks, millions of Americans will have the chance to sign up for quality, affordable health coverage for the very first time. Progressives are doing everything possible to educate Americans about the law and push back on the never-ending conservative misinformation campaign against Obamacare. Conservatives are, well, trying anything and everything in order to try and derail the law at the very last minute.
The party is united in its irrational opposition to the law and its offer of health security to millions of Americans; however, the GOP is now engaged in an all-out civil war over whether or not to shut down the government in a last ditch effort to try and derail the law.
These sorts of inflammatory comments paired with the GOP's policy positions in opposition to affordable access to birth control, abortion rights, equal pay legislation, and family-friendly positions like earned sick time represent an ongoing effort attacking women and their families.
