Kos, Billmon, and others blogged today about a UK Independent report detailing how the Pentagon “has stopped giving figures for the number of combat-ready indigenous troops” in Iraq. Instead, only broad figures for security forces “on hand” are issued, allowing Sec. Rumsfeld to claim there are 136,000 Iraqi security forces without mentioning that the bulk of that number represents police and National Guard members, not army soldiers (which still number under 10,000).
Of course, ThinkProgress readers already knew that. We broke the news here more than a week ago.
