In a town hall meeting this morning, one State Department official complained State Department employees were always the last to know when there is a national security problem in DC (like planes headed toward the Capitol or anthrax threats).
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice empathized, saying:
It’s happened to me, all right? And not just here in the department. It’s happened to me at the White House, too, that I look and see something on TV and I think, Oh, did that happen? I wonder why I didn’t know?
