McConnell Misleads on Iraqi Constitution

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Fox News, 8/28/05:

This is a constitution, certainly, by Middle Eastern standards, that’s astonishing”¦while Islam is mentioned, it is not the controlling law of the country.

Iraqi draft constitution:

Islam is the official religion of the state and is a basic source of legislation. No law can be passed that contradicts the undisputed rules of Islam.
