"Encounter with Rove inspires Sheryl Crow’s new album."
Singer Sheryl Crow’s new album “Detours” is inspired by her run-in with Karl Rove last year at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Crow sought to convince Rove about the need to take action on global warming, and Rove responded, “I don’t work for you, I work for the American people.” Crow’s new album contains tracks like “God Bless This Mess” and “Make It Go Away (Radiation Song).” Recalling her encounter with Rove, she told Rolling Stone:
I’m shaking even talking about it again. I feel like I got his stink on me. To have someone bring you to a height of your anger and frustration, and to be shot down that way – it was a pivotal moment for me. It became the impetus for making this record so political.
