"Bush congratulates Obama on becoming the Democratic nominee."
President George W. Bush offered his congratulations to Sen. Barack Obama for securing the Democratic presidential nomination, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said on Wednesday.
“President Bush congratulates Sen. Obama for clinching the Democratic party’s 2008 nomination for president,” Perino told reporters. “He knows from personal experience that the presidential nominating process is a grueling one and Sen. Obama came a long way in becoming his party’s nominee.”
Bush, however, did not personally call Obama to offer his congratulations, nor did Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY). Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told the AP “that Obama’s success represents an ‘extraordinary’ development for the nation.”
